Martinique: Lawyers try to halt expulsion of family from Dominica

Doubts still hang over the situation of the Durand family from Dominica who now have until Tuesday to leave  Martinique, local news reports say.

But with the help of their lawyers, the family of seven children and their two parents are now seeking to formalise their  stay in the French overseas territory.

The family took refuge in Martinique after Hurricane Maria devastated Dominica last year.

They have been staying in the community of Prêcheur with the children’s grandmother.

But they have since exceeded the statutory residence time for nationals coming from Roseau, according to Martinique 1ere.
