The Martinique town of Robert has slapped a ban on Carnival 2021 over concerns about the spread of COVID-19.
The ban comes days after hundreds took to the streets of another town, Lamentin, for a jump-up.
Robert Mayor, Alfred Monthieux, has prohibited public carnival events of any kind.
In a Facebook post Monday, he said the ban applies to the entire municipality.
And Monthieux warned that violators will face prosecution.
He issued the warning against the backdrop of calls on social media for people to attend carnival festivities.
According to Martinique 1Ere, there was a social media invitation on Sunday for people to attend a street parade in the municipality.
Another invited people to a boat party departing from the coastal area of Pointe Fort.
