Castries Mayor, Peterson Francis, has described as ‘disgusting’ videos on social media of young men throwing dogs over a cliff.
The youths laugh as they hurl two animals to their death in two separate recordings.
“I just saw a video – a disgusting video where you find young people just taking dogs and throwing them down a precipice,” Francis told reporters Tuesday.
While admitting that there’s a stray dog problem, the Mayor indicated that’s not the way.
He asserted that people have to treat the animals in a humane way.
However, Francis said the Castries Constituency Council (CCC) has tried ‘everything’ to address the stray dog problem.
The Mayor said this included speaking with the Saint Lucia Animal Protection Society (SLAPS).
But he disclosed that SLAPS has no space to accommodate the stray dogs.
“Is the CCC going to get a place? I don’t know what we are going to do,” the Mayor explained.
As a result, he invited suggestions on how to deal with the problem.
