Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, has urged a coordinated Caribbean approach towards ending the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The Barbados Government Information Service quoted Mottley as saying that it would include coordinating measures such as collective shutdowns, instituting protocols and policy responses.

The Barbados Prime Minister made the remarks during a virtual press conference hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday.

She stressed that the ball rested with the “political will of member states” as such action was needed for a fairer and healthier world.

And Mottley warned that a failure to work together runs the risk of seeing millions die again, in circumstances where policy measures can have a different result, to ensure less people become victims of epidemics and pandemics.

However, she noted that the answer to fight the pandemic was simply for countries to work together and for a level of global moral leadership.
