May 31, 2016- Residents of Micoud are the recipients of a modern state of the art Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Community Access Centre.
The centre will be officially commissioned on Thursday, June 02, 2016, and forms part of the thrust by the Government of Saint Lucia, to create the necessary environment for the development of an ICT- enabled society.
This is the sixth ICT Community Access Centre to be commissioned in recent weeks. The other recipients are: Vieux-Fort, Canaries, Anse-La-Raye, Garrand and Monchy.
According to the National ICT Policy and Strategy 2013-2018, “The government of Saint Lucia recognizes the need to promote the use of information and communication technology as an enabler of growth and development within the island.”
The national development agenda emphasies the use of such technologies in building requisite capacities within the country’s key economic sectors.
The five-year National ICT Policy and Strategy is organized along eight sectors which include: ICT infrastructure, Education, Health, Community development/Social Services, Business, Agriculture, Government including National Security, and Tourism.
