Press Release:-Micoud, Saint Lucia, Thursday 31st August 2017. Youth Development plays a vital role in preparing young people to face the challenges of an ever evolving society. At the community level, it is necessary to build proper club structures and advocacy channels for youth to become actively engaged and empowered to speak on behalf of themselves and their peers.

On Wednesday, August 30th 2017 youth within the Micoud community met at the Micoud Secondary School to elect a new Youth and Sports Council executive.

Following a discussion on priorities for the executive, a decision was made to elect an interim committee, mandated with the responsibility to lay the ground work ahead of council elections. Two major priority areas include reestablishing efficient communication channels for youth and mobilizing youth participation in council initiatives.

By the end of the night, a 7-member interim executive was elected to serve a period of 4 months, after which an election for the Micoud Youth and Sports Council will be called.

Following nominations and voting, the following young persons were voted as the new interim executive of the Micoud Youth and Sports Council.

The new team is enthusiastic about the task which lies ahead and looks forward to restoring a balance between youth development and sports in the community.
