Several more Saint Lucia communities are to benefit from phase two of the Government Island-wide Network (GINet), which was launched this week.
They are Anse-La Raye; Micoud-South; Choiseul; Gros-Islet ,including Pigeon Island; Castries South East and Babonneau.
The GINet Project aims to help develop a wireless local area network (WLAN) in public areas around Saint Lucia.
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet wrote on his official Facebook page that his administration is continuing to bring the vast opportunities of the Internet to every corner of the country, together with Saint Lucia’s Taiwanese friends.
Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen who just ended an official visit here was at the GINet phase two launch.
“I look forward to our citizens taking advantage of the many educational, entrepreneurial and other opportunities which the provision of free Wireless Internet will bring to their communities,” Prime Minister Chastanet stated on his Facebook page.
He recalled that in the 1st Phase of the GINet, 70 wireless access points were installed in Castries, Dennery North, Canaries, Micoud North and Vieux Fort South.
