More Communities To Benefit In Phase Two Of Free WiFi Initiative

Several  more Saint Lucia communities are to benefit from phase two of the Government Island-wide Network (GINet), which was launched this week.

They are Anse-La Raye; Micoud-South; Choiseul; Gros-Islet ,including Pigeon Island; Castries South East and Babonneau.

The GINet Project  aims to help develop a wireless local area network (WLAN) in public areas around Saint Lucia.

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet wrote on his official Facebook page that his administration is continuing to bring the vast opportunities of the Internet to every corner of the country, together with Saint Lucia’s Taiwanese friends.

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen  who just ended an official visit here was at the GINet phase two launch.

“I look forward to our citizens taking advantage of the many educational, entrepreneurial and other opportunities which the provision of free Wireless Internet will bring to their communities,” Prime Minister Chastanet stated on his Facebook page.

He recalled that in the 1st Phase of the GINet, 70 wireless access points were installed in Castries, Dennery North, Canaries, Micoud North and Vieux Fort South.

  1. We appreciate the initiative in helping connect the various communities with the rest of the World, a positive step forward Mr Prime Minister. However, please allow me a little poetic license in this post, as indeed I am through and through Saint Lucian, a land of buzzing Poets and upcoming Academics. GINet! For a moment I thought this article was an expose on some Femme Fatale going by the name Jeanette (GINet) and the Laision Dangereuse going on in Politics. Then I looked closely and thought I got it when – since we are forever looking for political points – GINet was a certain French twist or pun if you like on GIN et ……Poulet? Rum and Chicken?…..Chicken and Rum? Just saying, since we talking about Politics in Sweet Saint Lucia. In any case, this is progress for the people of the various communities who will benefit from this modern infrastructure….BIEN FAIT.

  2. We had the service of free WiFi here in Bexon, but over six months now the service has been down . No one is addressing the situation. So sad.
