National Security Minister, Hermangild Francis, supports a review of Saint Lucia’s buggery law.
“If Saint Lucians want that to be revisited I have no problems with that,” he told reporters.
“But I think the time has come when we really have to look at it,” the former Deputy Police Commissioner stated.
He expressed the view that too many young people are being maligned because of their sexual orientation.
Francis said he does not think that is right.
“Everybody should have the right to their own sexual, their own religious beliefs and association with political parties,” he stated.
“I agree that we should have a review of it,” Francis explained.
He declared that everyone has a right to do what pleases them as long as it does not affect the society and infringe anyone’s rights.
“Homosexuality with consenting adults in their privacy – I see no problem, but like I said, everybody is entitled to their opinion and we must respect everybody in that kind of discussion,” the minister told reporters.
He described such a discussion as ‘healthy’.
