Saint Lucia’s National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) has responded to concerns that the eruption of La Soufriere volcano in Saint Vincent and rumblings at Mount Pelée volcano in Martinique have implications for the Soufriere volcano here.
NEMO Director, Dorine Gustave, says the organisation has been in regular contact with UWI’s Seismic Research Centre (SRC).
“We have received information that there is no activity, no heightened activity at the volcano in Soufriere,” Gustave disclosed.
She made the disclosure on Friday at a news conference.
According to Gustave, the SRC has installed GPS monitoring stations here.
As a result, the NEMO Director explained that the centre is monitoring the Saint Lucia volcano ‘from their end’.
And she indicated that whenever there is activity, the SRC will inform authorities here.
