A new building costing an estimated EC $20 million is set to be constructed in Castries by next year.
Massy Stores Supermarket which currently operates from the William Peter Boulevard in Castries will be the building’s sole tenant.
The project head for HWH which is undertaking the job, Zai Karim-Nohammed, told St Lucia Times at the ground breaking that the structure at Queen’s Lane will result in an amazing face lift for the area.
She said that the entire team is local.
“We need to keep our money inside,” Karim-Mohammed asserted.
She explained that the new building will have two storeys and occupy about 28,000 square feet, including 20 parking spaces and a loading bay.
It is estimated that the construction phase of the new multi-million dollar building will last about nine months.
Massy Stores Supermarket should be in operation from the new location within another three months, it was disclosed.
Managing Director of Massy Stores Saint Lucia Limited, Martin Dorville, said the company was elated to be taking what he described as ‘this bold step’.
“It has multi-dimensional benefits,” Dorville told St Lucia Times.
He explained that those benefits will be for the local economy, Massy shareholders, supermarket staff who will be moving into a new building and consumers who will get elevated service and other standards.
