New Vehicles Expected To Improve RSLPF Response To Crime

On Monday, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) received two new vehicles that it expects will help improve officers’ response to reports of crime.

“As you are aware, in crime-fighting, the earlier you could respond is the better,” Police Commissioner Milton Desir told the official hand-over ceremony. And Desir explained that the RSLPF would put the two vehicles to good use in serving the public.

Home Affairs Minister Dr. Virginia Albert-Poyotte explained that addressing the RSLPF’s need for resources is among the government’s priorities, given the importance of policing to national security.

Albert-Poyotte acknowledged that these are trying times, and money is hard to come by.
Nevertheless, she asserted that security is a priority.

“We put our people first, and therefore the government has decided to invest in these vehicles, and we expect the RSLPF to use them diligently, wisely, and provide top-level security and service to the people of Saint Lucia,” she told the handing-over ceremony.

One of the vehicles will operate in Gros Islet, a constituency with over 30,000 people.

“I want to implore the Gros Islet police to keep on fighting. We do recognise some of the challenges in terms of the current venue of the Gros Islet police station,” Gros Islet MP Kenson Casimir stated.

However, he assured officers that Saint Lucia has a Prime Minister and a cabinet of Ministers committed to safety and security. Casimir also stated that he would continue to fight to ensure police officers get the materials they need to fight crime and COVID-19.
