Newly Drafted NBA Player Wants To Set Up Saint Lucia Foundation

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has lauded a United States athlete born of Saint Lucian parents, who visited him recently and wants to set up a foundation here..

Chastanet wrote on his official Facebook page that on Wednesday he met the newly drafted NBA player Terance Mann, who was accompanied by his family, representatives from the Saint Lucia Basketball Federation and his proud father and grandfather.

The PM described Mann as ‘another inspiring athletic son of Saint Lucia’ who is succeeding at the International level.

According to Chastanet, Mann was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Eustace Mann of Bois Pa Tat and Daynia La-Force of Morne du don, Castries.

He disclosed that although Terance was born in New York,  he traveled to Saint Lucia a lot as a child.

” He is currently 22 years old and has a love for Saint Lucia, which he will forever see as home and would like to set-up a foundation to promote and develop basketball locally,,” the PM stated.

Terance Mann is currently an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Florida State Seminoles.

He was drafted with the 48th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. He played for the Clippers during the 2019 NBA Summer League season, scoring five points, nine rebounds, and four assists in his debut against the Los Angeles Lakers, Chastanet wrote.

“I am grateful to Terance for taking the time to share his journey, for not forgetting his Saint Lucian roots and for his desire to help develop the sport of basketball here on island. His efforts and that of others combined with our National Sports Development Strategy will help provide the support and opportunities which our local athletes so richly deserve. We wish you much success and the very best on your journey Terance,” the Prime Minister stated.

  1. Saint Lucia has a two time NBA champion on the Raptors yet there was no mention or statement about it from the Government. Maybe that’s WHY he doesn’t want to set up a foundation HERE?

    • The Prime Minister has in the past also congratulated Chris Boucher and recognized his achievements. This is Terance’s time. let him have his moment. If you check the Prime Ministers page in the past you will see he spoke has has mentioned Boucher. Stop with the negativity all the time. Congrats to Terance Mann and goo of Chastanet to meet with out sports stars. The PM is former basketballer himself so we know he follows the sport.

  2. THERE ARE LOCAL YOUTHS THAT WANT TO BUILD THERE FOUNDATION, SO MR PRIME MINISTER, DO SOMETHING FOR THE YOUTHS THAT WANT TO UPLIFT THEMSELVES. PLEASE I BEG.

  3. We St. Lucians just don’t get it. Why be so negative about everything. Or if some of you have nothing to say just say poop!!!!

  4. When Chris Boucher won NBA Championship he wrapped himself in a Canadian flag. All the media referred to him as being from Montreal, Canada. No mention of St. Lucia. We are still proud of his achievement and posted about his St. Lucian heritage. Also Chris left St. Lucia at 3. Who knows if he ever visited hence Canada is his home. Mann on the other hand regularly visit St. Lucia so he can identify .
Congrats Terance Mann. You’re on the right track. You will be playing with our #2 man Kawhi but the Raptors still looking to beat the Clippers.

  5. St. lucia does nothing to uplift anyone. why should he Chris even mention St. Lucia. The way they treat their own isnt worthy of mentioning. Terance isnt obligated to do tidly squat for St. Lucians but chose out of compassion. Yet we read the negative garbage from ignorant fools. if he were spotting blond hair and blue eyes your arses would be bowing down to him right!!….Things will always be the same in the land of hypocrisies (st.lucia). They never know whats good for themselves and those who try to make a difference they drag you down to the pit. Such an ungrateful folk and morever this malady disappointingly affects ALL, educated and simple minded. Really hope healthcare is given priority …no cou-de- main needed.
