Nigeria: Female suicide bombers kill 12

africanews.com:-Five female suicide bombers killed 12 people and wounded 11 in northeast Nigeria’s Borno state, police said on Monday.

Borno state police spokesman Victor Isuku said the attacks took place on Sunday at around 08:30 p.m. (1930 GMT) in Kofa community, around 8 km (5 miles) from the state capital Maiduguri.

Islamist militant group Boko Haram killed 14 people in bombings and shootings in Maiduguri on June 7.

Borno State is the birthplace of the Boko Haram insurgency which seeks to establish an Islamic State in Nigeria. Despite recent successes by the Nigerian Army, the group continues to use suicide bombs to attack civilian populations.

The insurgents have since the assumption of office of President Buhari in 2015, being on the back foot with a sustained counterinsurgency by the Nigerian Army pushing them back and restricting their audacious forays as used to be the case in the past.

The insurgency has already resulted in the displacement of more than two million people across the Lake Chad region comprising Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad.
