Nobel Laureate Festival To Launch Wednesday

Press Release:– The Nobel Laureate Festival Committee (NLFC) will, this week, host the official launch of the 27th anniversary of activities honouring Saint Lucia’s two Nobel Laureates—Sir Arthur Lewis, and Sir Derek Walcott.

Saint Lucia began officially celebrating the achievements of its two illustrious sons in January 1993, shortly after the award of the Nobel Prize to its second laureate, Sir Derek Walcott.

This year, the 2020 month-long observance will present the Nobel Laureates as trailblazers who paved the way not only in their particular fields, but for future generations of Saint Lucians.

The launch will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 10 a.m., at the CDF, Barnard Hill, Castries; and will be attended by Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, Governor General Emerita of Saint Lucia, and Chair of the Nobel Laureate Festival Committee.

At the launch, committee members will briefly outline the schedule of events.

The 2020 Nobel Laureate Festival will be held from January 10 – February 6, under the theme, Celebrating Excellence.

  1. Lip service to the our two and probably what will be our only Nobel Laureates. Why did we implemented Sir Arthur Lewis economic policies which has turn Singapore into a wealthy nation. And the funds secured for the Derek Walcott house was taken away for no other reason except for spite. Politicians only evoke these two men names for pr purposes, Our current PM didn’t even know what Sir Derek Walcott got his Nobel Laureate prize for.

    • I am glad they took every dam penny from that house; no tax payers monies should fund that When Walcott was around he should have built that himself the same way he establish a theater in Trinidad to display his works and for the advancement of the arts in St Lucia and leave it in trust. Wining a Nobel Prize is an personal achievement and enhancement acknowledging [your body of work].
