The National Workers Union (NWU) hs accused the Castries Constituencies Council (CCC) of disrespect, as council employees downed tools Monday morning.
The workers said they were protesting plans to implement a shift system and extend hours of work.
The union’s President General, Tyrone Maynard, told reporters that the bargaining unit understands that CCC management officials have been going behind the NWU’s back telling council workers of plans to change hours of work.
“That is unprincipled it is totally disrespectful and we cannot accept that,” Maynard asserted.
He said the CCC wanted to implement the changes as of Monday.
“ We are not aware of it. So as far as we are concerned, the workers are going to sit here and wait for council so that we can discuss in detail whatever they want to do nd how it will impact on the lives of these people,” the NWU President General stated in an interview Monday morning.
“We have a signed collective agreement with council and during the negotiations, we made it abundantly clear that whatever the council needs to do they must sit with us we must discuss and make sure that decisions coming out of joint meetings are in the interest of council and workers,” he explained.
