Police have taken one man into custody in connection with the shooting of a nine-year old boy in Ciceron, Castries, on Saturday afternoon.
Superintendent of Police with responsibility for Crime Management, George Nicholas, told reporters that charges are expected to be laid shortly.
He informed reporters at a news conference Tuesday morning that the name of the person in custody does not appear in the police records as being the owner of a licenced firearm.
With regard to the boy who was shot, Nicholas said the child had an apparent gunshot wound to the eye.
He explained that the boy was taken to the Owen King European Union Hospital where he underwent surgery.
According to Nicholas, the boy is now in stable condition.
Ciceron residents had reported that a man who came to the community to sell a motorcycle was playing with a firearm which went off, injuring the 9-year old.
