Over 400 employees of the Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa in Vieux Fort have been made redundant, HTS Television news reported Wednesday evening.
It’s the latest fallout from the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
According to HTS, the employees were summoned to the resort on Wednesday to collect their severance pay and return items, including uniforms, that belong to the hotel.
Some employees indicated they were expecting more compensation.
On its official website, Coconut Bay boaste 250 air-conditioned rooms, 9 restaurants, 7 bars, 5 pools, complete fitness center, tennis and basketball courts, full-service salon and Ocean front spa.
The all-inclusive resort said it catered for singles, couples and families.
