The President of the Vendors Association, Peter ‘Ras Ipa’ Isaac is currently in hospital after a male individual shot him on Jeremie Street, Castries, about 7:45PM Tuesday, multiple eyewitnesses say.
One of the eyewitnesses told St Lucia Times that he was with Isaac at the time of the shooting.
The eyewitness said there was a ‘verbal exchange’ between the Vendors Association President and a woman who was serving at the business establishment.
“I tell Ipa just cool it out,” the eyewitness explained.
He said a male individual whom he assumed to have been a security guard became involved, eventually putting Isaac in a ‘choke lock’.
Police have confirmed that the man is a security guard.
The eyewitness said the guard ushered Isaac out of the bar.
“He tell Ipa ‘What you say? You go shoot me?’ And bo…..he shot Ipa in his leg. When I hear the shot I say Ipa, you get shot? Ipa check yourself. Ipa say ‘Yes’ he got shot.”
“I still could not believe that Ipa got shot,” he told St Lucia Times.
According to the eyewitness, the security guard claimed that ‘Ipa’ had threatened him.
“I tell him the man never threaten you. After you hold the man in a choke lock, you throw him down, you shot him – what threat the man was to you?”
According to the eyewitness, an ambulance took the Vendors Association President to hospital.
Police are investigating.
