Opposition leader Philip J. Pierre says schools reopened Monday amid much anxiety.
He noted that the Government instructed schools to reopen ‘amidst much anxiety from teachers and parents.’
Pierre noted that the authorities asked children to return to class after officials announced the highest COVID-19 cases here.
The Ministry of Health on Saturday said Saint Lucia recorded a whopping 43 new cases of COVID-19.
It was the highest ever number of COVID-19 cases locally.
And Pierre also referred to the new variant of the COVID-19 virus.
The former Tourism Minister noted that the variant continues to wreak havoc in this country’s tourism source markets.
But Pierre observed that despite the challenges and limited resources, teachers, the authorities have asked teachers to show up and do the best.
He noted that the teachers have always done so.
Pierre said he believes in the strength, resilience, and professionalism of our teachers.
He said he trusts that they will make the right decision.
“The road ahead will require dialogue, empathy, rethinking of our priorities, and increased resources to schools,” Pierre stated.
He reiterated that a Philip J. Pierre Administration will immediately reinstate the one laptop per student program.
He asserted that the administration will ensure that education is accessible to all people.
“The Saint Lucia Labour Party is committed to putting you first,” he explained.
