Pierre concerned about possible SLTB job losses

Opposition leader, Philip J. Pierre, has expressed concern about possible job losses at the Saint Lucia Tourist Board (SLTB).

Pierre’s concern follows reports that SLTB staff have been informed that termination letters are being prepared and they would have to apply for positions in the soon to be created Tourism Authority.

“Anytime anyone loses his job or is about to lose his job it must concern me and all Saint Lucia – you know the unemployment situation is already in a very bad place,” he declared, adding that he did not know what was the rationale behind the reported impending terminations.

The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) leader told the Times that he has not seen details of the Tourism Authority plan.

“I don’t know if it is another layer of bureaucracy and I don’t know whether it is a replacement for the Tourist Board, so I guess the devil is in the details,” the former Tourism Minister said.

Nevertheless Pierre told the Times he hoped any move to create another body is not another attempt to create ‘jobs for the boys’ or hire another set of Consultants or people whom the government wants to repay for political favours.

“I am waiting to see,” he stated of the reported job losses.

Just recently Tourist Board Director, Louis Lewis and his Deputy, Tracy Warner-Arnold quit their jobs.

The government hastened their departure, which was scheduled for January in the case of Lewis and at the end of November in the case of Warner-Arnold, by paying them off.

The two spent their last day on the job this week.
