Saint Lucia’s opposition leader, Philip J. Pierre, has congratulated Jamaica’s  Prime Minister Andrew Holness and the Jamaica Labour Party on their election win.

“On behalf of the people of Saint Lucia and the Saint Lucia Labour Party, I extend best wishes to you and your team as you embark on a new term, serving and putting the people of Jamaica first,” Pierre stated in a post on his party’s official Facebook page.

The Jamaica Labour Party was returned to office to office Thursday with a landslide in the general election.

The JLP won 49 of 63 seats, an addition of 16 seats, according to an early count

The poll was defined by the novel coronavirus pandemic and the immense popularity of its leader, Andrew Holness who, at age 39, became Jamaica’s youngest-ever prime minister in October 2011.

Last night Holness, who in July this year marked his 48th birthday, acknowledged the massive margin of victory.

He pledged that his Administration would be responsible in the management of the power given to it by Jamaican electors

President of the  defeated People’s National Party (PNP), Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips, has submitted his resignation letter to the party’s chairman Fitz Jackson.

He  told reporters in a media briefing that it was the right thing to do.
