Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has joined other leaders in expressing condolences on the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who was assassinated on Friday.

Pierre extended ‘sincerest condolences’ to Abe’s family and the Government and people of Japan on behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of the former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Our world cannot continue to be plagued by such brutal and senseless violence,” Pierre wrote on Facebook.

“Rest well former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe,” the Saint Lucia Prime Minister wrote.

Abe was giving a speech for a candidate in Nara, a city in western Japan, just ahead of Sunday’s parliamentary elections, when a man shot him with a handmade firearm.

Local reports said police arrested a 41-year-old suspect who confessed to the crime.

But his motive was unclear.

The fatal shooting of the 67-year-old Abe sent shockwaves through Japan which has very tight gun control laws.

And world leaders past and present have been expressing their condolences while hailing the former Prime Minister’s contribution to the development of his country.

  1. Its because they’re considered hoodlums ans from poor neighbourhoods that he’s not interested. Directing all all sorts of racist comments towards Chastanet is a smoke screen to his own prejudices towards other kinds of folks.

  3. Like you I’m saddened by the assassination of the former Japanese Prime Minister. However Pierre I’m more saddened by the dozens of young men, who could have gone on to be productive members of society who are assassinated on a monthly basis in St Lucia, yet I don’t hear you come out and say you are saddened by their deaths. Pierre charity should begin at home. You need to be saddened by the lost of every young man and woman who lose their lives in this manner in St Lucia before you express the same for someone you might not have even known. Some of these young men and women are your constituents, who voted for you last and previous elections, but their assassination don’t sadden you.

      • I am saddened by the young people who are assassinated in out streets almost on a daily basis while this clueless government just pays lip service. I don’t even know why I had such high expectations from this government anyway. When a woman who posts daily prayers online one minute and is cussing out people the next minute is rewarded with a top level posting this government sends the message that bad behaviour and criminal activity get rewarded. What should we expect from our youth when adults can cuss out others in the most despicable manner all in the name of politics and be rewarded? Time to get this clueless emabrasament of a government out, out, out!

    • This tells you that we have been programmed to have MORE sympathy for the plights of foreigners and outsiders than for our own smh. Now I’m not saying we shouldn’t share in the sympathy and grief of others but what we have here is that the same amount of energy exerted to outside foreign sympathy should be the same amount exerted on our own demise! Too many young men and women killed in our streets and the silence from the violence is UNACCEPTABLE! When are we going to sympathize for our own race the same way our BLACK WOMEN are overly sympathetic towards WHITE MEN. It’s a shame how colonialism did a huge number on our race particularly on our black women and this nonsense FEMINIST MOVEMENT funded by WHITE SUPREMACISTS made to directly target the black race!!!! You white people lovers come at me…. I’m ready for y’all!!!😂

    • Exactly. Its because they’re considered hoodlums ans from poor neighbourhoods that he’s not interested. Directing all all sorts of racist comments towards Chastanet is a smoke screen to his own prejudices towards other folks.
