Pierre: Government Will Seek To Eliminate All Forms Of Criminality

On Sunday, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre told the 71st Annual Conference of Delegates of his ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) that his administration would seek to root out crime in all its forms.

The Castries East MP spoke amidst mounting national concern over criminal activity, particularly violent crime that has resulted in 17 homicides for the year.

Responsible for National Security, Pierre has previously described the crime situation as alarming.

“We are aware of the problems facing our country. We know that crime is creating a feeling of fear and trepidation among our people. We are taking steps to improve the capability of the police force even in the midst of the fiscal constraints,” the SLP leader told Sunday’s event, broadcast on national television.

‘We will provide more vehicles to increase their ability to respond quickly to crime,” Pierre said.

He asserted that some believe that the government will pay when there’s an upsurge in crime. However, Pierre declared that this was shortsighted.

“We all suffer. Our country’s reputation is tarnished and inevitably we are disadvantaged,” the PM declared.

He reiterated a pledge to improve the working conditions of the police and provide them with training as well as modern crime detecting equipment.

But the Prime Minister asserted that the police must show a commitment to maintaining law and order as the government has clearly demonstrated the intention to provide more resources, as seen by the provision of 11 vehicles last week.

“Your government will seek to eliminate all forms of criminality. We will ensure that the crime of corruption in government is discouraged,” Pierre stated.

And he urged his audience to rest assured that his administration has not forgotten its pledge to legally correct the wrongs of the past United Workers Party (UWP) government.

  1. The PM well articulated one of the major issues with crime in this country. He will give the police vehicles to respond to crime. A very reactive approach – let the crime happen and then try to figure it out. Where are the strategies for deterrence? Where are the social programs, the linking of agencies, the provision of other resources? Crime is not just a police issue. It’s a St. Lucia issue we have to think outside the box.

  2. Remember operation restore confidence? They were taking out these pieces of garbage one by one, but no they wasn’t good enough for Lucians and they had to start crying and call for Massa America to get the cops to stop. Where is America now? And where are the people that were saying the police was wrong ? Salop your’ll get what your’ll wanted .

  3. Man-man don’t full yourself they know how to tap peoples phone. The thing is they tap innocent ppl phone and not those they should be tapping. There need to be complete restructuring of the force. Use the people who knows what they are doing. Those who love the job that they do have a passion for it and who will do it well to be at the helm of the force. Don’t use those lazy clueless officers to lead. You will never get the job to be done well. The officers should be ahead of the criminals. When you all know how to humble yourselves and allow the guys that were in orc to help you all plan and do the job in the force. Ask them for tips on how to do certain things instead of having them on a side as if they are not members of the force. Stlucia s are paying with their lives for you all selfish, greedy., uncaring ways. Strategize to plan to beat the criminals but then again those leaders in the force that are put o. The positions they are because of who they know and not being able to do the jobs will not be able to formulate plans. Some officers just have to seat back and wonder sometimes . Gods eyes are on us. If you cannot be humble to us learnt to humble to him first and he will direct you as to what to do. Peace and love

  4. Man you all say that for every figging Prime Minister that come in. When it was Chastenet you all was saying the same thing, Kenny same thing. Now is Pip turn to take the blame for the high crime rate.

These politicians are lazy, and Lucians don’t hold them accoutable for NOTHING!! Pip, Kenny, Chanstent all these politicians. You mean none of these politicians cannot sign an order to the phone companies allowing police officers to get access to phone records. THAT’S FIGHTING CRIME. Lucians ain’t saying nothing about that.

All these people getting caught with guns and amunition and they still getting bail…None of these politicians cannot use ther influence to address the courts to stop this from happening. THAT’S FIGHTING CRIME. Lucians ain’t saying nothing about that…So many thing these politicians can do to fight crime but we allow then to get away with it.

You know why these politicians not doing nothing about it…

    1) Crime don’t affect them, they live some where in Cap, Rodney Bay or in some gated community no care for you, no care for me.

    2) You all vote for these politicians and you all don’t get nothing out the deal. A little bit a rum, $150 at election or may be they fix a drain in your area and your body good.

WE NEED TO DEMAND MORE AND STOP LIVING CHEAP… DEMAND MORE FOR YOUR VOTE.
Money and rum is not all, the drain they fix in your neighborhood is not all. They need to provide security and draft policy and legislation. THAT’S THEIR JOB !!

I want reporters to challenge the prime minster… “You have been in office for such and such time what legislation have you drafted to help in the crime fighting process?”

Mr. Pip one of your promies to the electorate is that you would be using drones to help fight crime… When you doing it?, what’s going on?

Reporters not challeging the elected officials and the electorate DeckDeck…after elections ever body go to sleep and complaining in their sleep.

YOU NEED TO KEEP FIGHTING AND ASKING FOR WHAT YOU WANT WHILE THE PARTY IN POWER.

  5. Is that a prime minister talking…? And you are a law man? You offered no semblance of a way forward in your statement….a statement lacking of vigor or Verve…just giving the police vehicles is your solution?…is that all?…I can’t believe what I was reading coming from the PM…the country is on its knees from violence and you offer the people nothing but and few statements worth of nothing…this is just a joke… I am pissed.

  6. Well, well, well, the police gets the blame for crime in St. Lucia. Poor police, you are expected to be at every corner of St Lucia 24/7. But St Lucians must realize that the problem starts with Phillip JnPiere who has no clue how to resolve the criminal element just as he has no clue how to solve the COVID issue. Listen to his words, it’s obvious that he and his cabals don’t even have an action plan except holding the police responsible. Don’t you realize that crime is a community effore! This is an individual that was so vocal in opposition and right now he has the Fort and St Lucia is turning into a Wild Wild West right under his watch.

Everytime there is a crime he will improve the police force by providing vehicles; so how prepared are you Mr Prime Minister? What about the other resources? Are they properly equipped to combat the criminal element? Are they properly trainied for that fight against drugs and crime? Keep in mind Basic Training for the Police is a completely different training environment when combating drugs and criminal activity. Do you plan to get outside training? Right now this is a war against innocent St Lucians which is getting worse. Do you plan to recruit!? Are you proposing a solid Base Pay to entice recruitment? You need numbers. But the bottom line is no one can completely stop crime and the police need help.

  7. Pierre needs to stop it. He keeps making promises he can’t keep and that is because he has no say. Stop pulling the wool over peoples eyes and stop your fluff and bluff. CRIME IS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH UNDER YOUR WATCH, but in your arrogance and true to SLP cliquism form you can’t accept that you need help. You have some tough former high level cops in your camp that you can bring in but you can’t be humble and admit you are failing in crime. You allow the lying rover minister to run roughshod over because you feel indebted to your so called peers because they allowed you the chance to be PM. What a disappointment you have turned out to be. I want to apologize to St.lucians for voting for this deceptive government and unleashing armageddon on our country. Please forgive me

  8. PJP start by eliminating yardie, get him off mbc because he clearly doesn’t practice what he preach…he’s just like some slp hacks before you comment on something they quick to attack you.

    • You can tell criminals to behave when you have some of your own engaging in criminal behavior and appearing to get away with it. And, they flaunt their rogue behavior in your face because they know that their PM will show up in court to show support. A press secretary can blatantly flout rules and be wrong and strong about it because she has backa. A fish rots from the head.

  9. Pierre eliminate! Does he really know the meaning of the word? Crime cannot be eliminated unless there is no one existing in the world. Note that I support reducing crime but Pierre needs to look within first. I’m lost as to why he saw it advantageous not to send a candidate in Central Castries. Stanley would have won this seat comfortable but he had to bring a criminal, drug baron, money launderer in his cabinet. I’m totally in support of Kenny not being in such a cabinet.

  10. I Really thought Government would have Strengthen the Laws for Unlicensed Firearms and Ammunition .The Domestic Violence Act makes More Sence to me than That increase of Unlicensed Firearms Homicides. Its a Disgrace and The Pm and Minister of National Security take it as a Joke .Two Police officers was ambush Meters away from the Pm Residence .This is very Serious do Something .I am Slp from Birth I dont Support the Shit towards Crime in St.Lucia

  11. Start at the top. You can’t have shady characters in your parliament while proclaiming to want to solve crime.

  12. “We will provide more vehicles to increase their ability to respond quickly to crime,” Pierre said.” ————Again this is not the answer to the problem. You are showing how much you are clueless of the Root Cause of the problem. Providing Just vehicles will not help solve the issue. We need more than Just Vehicles. We need the police men and women to be trained in different aspect of Policing. We need qualified detectives, record keeping folks, evidence collectors and we need a system where the public can trust the police to give information. These are just a few of the skillsets we need to combat crimes in slu. In addition to that we need to amend the laws so the police can be proactive in their work. They do not have to wait until a crime happens to act or show up as invaders to a wedding party – after the fact. Pierre, you are clueless of the problem and I advise you to stop throwing money on vehicles. In this day and age, a police vehicle should be a moving police station with everything for the police to work. Monitoring tools to monitor the where about of the police whenever they are out – Let us show the results of an investment if you decide to spend $1 million on the Police. Can I suggest you organize a pilot project with some of the police stations across the country. We need a culture change within the police. You do not seem to have mind set to do any of these changes – instead you are giving us the same shit from a different Asshole.

  13. ELIMINATE: COMPLETELY remove or get rid of (something).

“Your government will seek to eliminate all forms of criminality…….”
The only reason you didn’t state how you will do it is because it cannot be done. Really do want to go into the politics of your nonsense statement but I thung you neeed to clean your cabinet first.

  14. Please Mr PM begin your corrective action on certain characters in your cabinet. Secondly, stop condoning their illegal and corrupt behaviour. Then we will trust what u say. Sorry to say u and them have disappointed those of us who voted for my SLP party. This is not the SLP that I knew and supported.

  15. You want the police to show commitment. Yes they should but they are human too.with the wrong you all did to the police with orc do you expect the police to put their lives on the line like this. I hope you all correct the wrong of shunning people who deserve to be promoted in the police force and promoting you all friends.it happen under both parties so I am yet to see changes. Your party always comes
U g uwp when you were in opposition and promise change but so far I don’t see any changes. Bow down to the changes and let your ministers know the changes has to take place with their constituency as well. Let them know that they cannot shun people and others associate with them just because they don’t like correction and truths. All of you learn to be humble because when you all want votes you all humble enough to do anything and assist anyone but when you all get on the hang wagon you don’t know ppl or don’t have time. Too many ppl in the constituencies are looking out for the changes but from experience with you all I think they will wait in vain. To the police officers keep your fingers cross for those changes. Peace and love
