Pierre Responds To Criticism Of Parliamentarians’ Behaviour In The House

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre has suggested that criticism of the behavior of parliamentarians in the house last week amounted to a distraction from important revelations during the house sitting.

“As I say, that is a flashing mirror,” the Castries East MP declared when reporters raised the issue on Monday on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting.

“ Parliaments all over the world Taiwan – you saw Boris Johnson in the House of Commons – all over the world. What I think was important are the revelations at last week’s meeting and that is what we should be pushing on,” Pierre asserted.

And he accused unnamed sectors of trying to get away from the serious issues raised during the house sitting.

“What’s important is what was said in the parliament – the revelations, the direct awards, the state of the SDF, the state of the finances of the country as they relate to direct awards that were given.”

“There was one instance where a direct award was written for a lighting project for twelve million dollars and that project had been financed by the CDB. The government instead of using that mode of finance they cancelled it then you heard from another point of view that there was some firm that would get involved in a PPP arrangement. Now you saw a direct award written. That is what is important, not the behavior let’s keep our eyes on the prize,” Pierre declared.

“Let’s talk about behavior. No one in the parliament said, ‘I am not doing it.’ Did you hear anybody in the parliament saying ‘I am not doing it? I am not withdrawing”? That happened before, but conveniently we seem to want to forget what happened before,” the PM told reporters.

During a house siting in June 2019, Allen Chastanet, the current opposition leader who was then Prime Minister, refused to withdraw a statement after Speaker Andy Daniel called on him to do so during a sitting of the House in June 2019.

The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP), which was then in opposition, stormed out in protest.

  1. I am so disappointed in this party that I supported for years. I thought that they would make a difference. What examples are they teaching our children. People can debate our disagree with each other in a civilize manner. No name calling no disrespect but politicians cannot learn to do that. Hypocrites when you come and say our young people put down the weapons learn to handle your disagreements with love. My my what are you teaching them but the same things they are seeing you all doing. You cannot respect each other by debating in a civil manner. Please please our youth rise above that do not look to them as your role models but rather turn to prayer. Let god be your best friend. Learn to talk to him when things are good as well as when it’s bad. Ask him to help you especially when you are in doubt about a decision you need to make. Nothing is better than talking to god and telling him the things you will not want to tell anyone else. Never fear he listens and he hears you. I am pleading to our youth and our stliucian people forget the politicians let them go to the polls themselves , do not take part in any campaigns, stop being loyal to party . If u feel like supporting a man or woman during voting for whatever reason do it but don’t fight each other because of politicians. They victimize and don’t look out for those that slaves for them during campaign do you think is you that they will do it for. I thought Pjp was a god sent to help bring the change that he wanted but my god oh no he is a disappointment to me. Five years will go by in the blink of an eye for the Bible days 1 year will be like a 1000 years and a 1000 years will be like one year. Their 5 years will come faster than they think. How about our youth come together and form a party based on the principles of god (lol) but I am sure such a group will have gods blessings. Material things and money are just temporary things that can’t and will never last forever. A good conscience, a good gesture from the heart, peace and love are life time things not material things. Keep the love stlucia and ignore those politicians let’s seek and concentrate on hod instead. They will have their day because their conscience will one day catch up with them and those of them who don’t have a conscience will one day develop one. Peace and love

  2. These politicians on both sides are behaving like a bunch of clowns. This is why the country is like a freaking circus. Stop putting these people on pedestals, they don’t belong there. Stop looking to them to be role models, they’re clearly not.

  3. Dear Prime Minister Pierre

I believe the people of Saint Lucia have sent a clear message to all of you that we are no longer loyal to party. You saw in 2016 the Allan Chastanet lead United Workers Party claim an 11/17 victory. His arrogance assisted with that of Guy Joseph allowed your party to win 13/17 seats in 2021.

Stop making excuses for the behaviour of your team, the behavior we witnessed was unacceptable, PERIOD! What was displayed on that day was a collection of boys pretending to be men, given a new toy (the seats you all hold) and trying to see who has the biggest c*ck in the yard.

Take your head out of the sand and lead your party. You are allowing the pseudo alpha personalities create the image and narrative of the party. Be the change PM Pierre, be the change that will allow your party another five years in 2026.

    Regards

  4. Prime minister instead of apologizing you comparing us to other countries…well just like these countries we will storm the streets in protest against y’all refusal..I give the budget name chass because is him alone y’all talking about.

  5. This government can never be successful because of the way they used some people to gain power only to turn around and treat them worst than animals. They used conniving and deception to worm their way in power so that they and their cabal of gluttons could enjoy the hard work of soldiers who really believe they were fighting for bread freedom and justice. They never realised that these traitors only wanted the opportunity to top up the bank accounts of the clique who had been starved of the glamorous lifestyle for 5 years. St Lucia I apologize for putting these crooks on your backs once more.

  7. Oh my goodness, is Pierre telling the nation that because in some parliaments debates have degenerated into fist fight that we could expect that in ours? Can we not set our own high standards? And by the way, is the Prime Minister telling us that Stephenson King was misleading WHEN HE ADMITTED THAT THE BEHAVIOUR NEEDS IMPROVING? Must a behavior be considered improper only if it goes against the standing orders? What’s about the expectations of the wider society? And about the example to be set?

  8. The crow don’t forget your favorite politician used fucker as well. And I’m really not surprise at you justifying this because this is how you labar hacks speak. Violence
And sad to see the kids being raised the same way. Children of pigs

  9. In other words PJP look how they murdering people in other Caribbean Islands, and the Middle East, so what’s wrong with us murdering a one two people on our island? Mr. PM my kids deserve better, they are watching you and the other Ministers and the Opposition as well. Take St.Lucia to a new high. Don’t do like the former PM did. That’s why he was voted out. Please take note and don’t let Ernest mislead you.

  10. The behavior of the parliamentarians in the house is akin to the behavior of most members of parliamentary democracy. We had a human moment in the house last week. In the discussion of contentious issues, temper is expected to flair, and passion is expected to rise. Prime Minister Pierre demonstrated a genuine love of the country. And ff you are upset by the pillage of your country then you are certainly a patriot.

  11. There was absolutely nothing on toward that happened in the house that was disgraceful. Most person’s will not be able to highlight one thing except King’s use of the word damn. And most use the word damn on a daily basis or even worse.

  12. The ministers were really embarrassing in Parliament. Also, I found that the speaker wasn’t giving his undivided attention once the ex-prime minister was speaking.

  13. The electors were correct to kick the Chastanet’s party from the pinnacle of power. They underperformed without a doubt. But the SLP, so far, is a monumental disappointment. They are corrupt (Land Rover Scandal), they are engaged in victimization, they turning the parliament into a mental asylum and the leader cannot leader. In the SLP, the tail is wagging the dog.

How dare you condoned the disgraceful and disposable conduct in parliament. You not only look brain damaged and act so too. Why do you resort to compare the inexcusable behaviour in the local parliament with the worst around the world. Why not compare it with best parliamentary practices throughout the globe? Your statement proves beyond any doubt you are just a colossal moron.

The way you and your corrupt ministers are conducting yourselves, just one term for you. The more things change the more they remain the same. It’s quite clear that you and your flock of sheep are in government for two reasons only, to fatten yourselves and to seek revenge. Morons and gangsters running the government.

  14. Don’t worry tan toe tan toe st lucians will learn Don’t take care of the country and economy take every thing for a joke
