The Prime Minister will tomorrow evening outline the medium to long term fiscal strategy which includes the announcement of tax reforms. Notably, the Government has already announced increased injection of capital into agriculture, infrastructure and social programmes.

The Debate on the Appropriation Bill follows from Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11 and Friday, May 12, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.

  1. Even though I have my doubts, I would like Mr. Chastanet to produce a budget that would alleviate hardships and create the opportunities for Lucian to lift themselves out of the economic malaise. There are so many glaring areas that need improvement. If this budget fail to deliver for the ordinary person, it would become Mr. Chastanet’s Waterloo.

  2. You all red eye blind fools, you had a administration who was there for 15yrs they promise better days the only thing you all got was taxes to your throat unemployment, bad hospitals bad schools crumbling fire stations a security service in bad order etc.but now someone with a better vision is there you all just criticizing. I believe he is very courageous man you all will not stop him.

  3. For the good of all citizens, let’s hope that Mr. Chastanet surprises us and delivers a budget that has something positive for everyone. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt to prove all his doubters like me wrong. I want to wish him well for the good of St. Lucia. After the budget address I will give my unbiased assessment.

    • The BUDGET has already been delivered. It is one point five billion dollars and change. Today, the Minister for Finance is going to the House to get permission to take the money from the Consolidated Fund (from the Treasury). In seeking this permission, he needs to make out a case. So the law gives him two hours to make that case. This is the speech that we call the Budget Policy Speech, because the law says the debate involved must be on the economic state of the island, and the general principles of policy that will underscore the spending of that money. I hope you understand. Irie?
