PM: Cruise Industry Excited About Plans For Cruise Port In Vieux Fort

The government is pressing ahead with plans for a home cruise port in the South of the Island.

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet  made the announcement on Wednesday on his official Facebook page.

And the prime minister has disclosed that the cruise industry is still ‘very excited’ about the project.

“We continue to work closely with them,” Chastanet explained.

“And are committed to making it happen for Vieux Fort and Saint Lucia,” he disclosed.

In this regard, Chastanet  said that while in Miami recently, he met with David Candib, Vice President, Development & Operations, Carnival Corporation, Armando Corpas, Sr. Director Project Management, Global Port & Destination Development, Carnival Corporation and T.J. O’Sullivan Director, Project Development, Destination Development, Royal Caribbean Group.

“We have already achieved so much in the south of the island,” he observed.

And he mentioned investments in unique sectors.

In this regard, Chastanet noted the BPO industry which he said has the Freezone abuzz and employs hundreds of young people.

He also referred to the the start of the airport project, work continuing on St Jude and community projects such as playing fields, human resource and health centres.
