Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has lauded the contribution women have made in the fight against COVID-19.
He did so in a message to mark International Women’s Day on Monday.
Chastanet said it was imperative to recognise the ‘immense contribution’ of women.
And he called attention to them being on the frontline in roles such as doctors, administrators, nurses, caregivers and emergency personnel.
The PM said they are risking their own lives in the service of their fellow men and women.
He also paid tribute to teachers and all the women who continue to serve Saint Lucia in this difficult time.
According to Chastanet, Saint Lucia owes a debt of gratitude it can never repay.
He asserted that over the past four years, his administration has consistently advanced the causes of women.
The PM referred to appointments and promotions, especially in the public service.
“We now have more women in our parliament and in our cabinet than ever before,” he stated.
Chastanet also asserted that women are being chosen for positions of leadership in both the public and private sectors.
As a result, he declared that they are tearing down the barriers that stand in their way.
And Chastanet expressed the view that the women are doing so with ‘great success’.
