Prime Minister Allen Chastanet says 12 new outboard engines for the Marine Police Unit here will help enhance borders security.

“We are continuing to strengthen Saint Lucia’s COVID-19 Response and the security of our borders,” Chastanet said.

He made the comments on his official Facebook page.

The PM said the work of the Marine Police Unit has been significantly improved with the 12 new boat engines for 5 of the unit’s vessels.

Chastanet explained more patrols to prevent illegal entries into Saint Lucia amidst the COVID-19 pandemic had taken their toll on most of the existing engines.

“With these new resources the Marine Unit will now be more responsive and efficient in their patrols,” he asserted.

“We remain committed to doing our part to minimize the burdens which our Front-liners face whilst carrying out their duties,” Chastanet declared.

The Marine Police Unit has already fitted two of its vessels with new engines.
