PM Says Castries City Tourism Product A Priority

As the cruise tourism market continues to expand, the Government has identified the Castries City Tourism Product as a priority for Saint Lucia, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet says.

Writing on his official Facebook page, the former Tourism Minister mentioned  targeted investment sites and activities aimed at making downtown Castries more pleasant and attractive to Saint Lucian residents as well as to visitors.

“The revitalization of Castries, will improve living conditions, transform both the visitor and local shopping experience in Castries, but beyond this, it will benefit the owners of micro-enterprises and encourage further investment in this sector,” Chastanet observed.

The Prime Minister disclosed that the consultancy and design phases for several investment initiatives to revitalize downtown Castries has started.

Chastanet said that they include, the Redevelopment of the Castries Market, the pedestrianization of William Peter Boulevard, the upgrading of sidewalks, works for the improvement of the visitor experience walking through downtown Castries and the Boulevard areas, the beautification of King George V Park, including the Botanical Gardens, improvements to traffic and parking, and a Façade Improvement Grants Programme for existing small businesses.

    April 25
New Testament Verse of the Day:
“But God has protected me right up to this present time so I can testify to everyone, from the least to the greatest. I teach nothing except what the prophets and Moses said would happen …”
    –Acts 26:22

  2. Develop Castries for the people of St Lucia and not for foreigners.

Do it for the people, foreigners will automatically be catered for after.

To often we hear about development of St Lucia to increase Tourism – it just comes across like if Tourism didn’t exist these developments will not take place for the people of St Lucia.

    • Exactly. Treat the residents of Castries like trash and you expect the City to stay clean. Downright stupid.

  3. The visitors from Cruise ships are barely spending any money right now. I hope this includes programs for vendors to manufacture unique local items to incite the tourists more
