Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has declared that since coming into office in June 2016, his administration has launched Saint Lucia’s biggest ever road rehabilitation project.

Chastanet made the observation in a post on his official Facebook page.

The post is reproduced below:

There is no denying that when we assumed office in June of 2016, we inherited a deplorable national road network. Not only were ours roads in a bad state but basic requirements such as road markings, signage and safety barriers were non existent in some of the most heavily trafficked areas of the country.

Since assuming office, we have launched the largest road rehabilitation project in our country’s history. Across the island, a concerted effort has been made to address some of these road issues. Though significant progress has been achieved over the last 4 years through our road maintenance and rehabilitation projects we are taking it a step further.

Under the National Roads Rehabilitation Project over 30 National Roads will be completely rehabilitated. This also includes several Agriculture Feeder Roads which will improve access to farms and help bolster our food security efforts.

Please note that this list does not mention roads in Gros Islet as the roads in this constituency are being addressed under a separate road rehabilitation Programme. Over 15 roads are currently under construction in the constituency of Gros Islet with many many more to commence in the coming weeks.
