PM Says Saint Lucia In Better Position Than Three Years Ago

As the ruling United Workers Party (UWP) observes three years in office, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has declared that the country is in a much better position than three years ago.

“Whilst we are in no way satisfied with where we currently are, we can proudly acknowledge that Saint Lucia is in a much better position than it was 3 years ago,” Chastanet wrote on his official Facebook page.

“We have reversed the negative trend set by the Labour Party and have seen 3 years of positive Economic Growth. Unemployment is at it’s lowest in the last 8 years. The Debt to GDP ratio is declining. We have recorded 3 years of record tourism arrivals and we recorded a Primary surplus for the first time in many many years,” the Saint Lucia Prime Minister asserted.

He expressed thanks and gratitude to each and every Saint Lucian who supported his Government in the good times and especially throughout some of the challenging moments.

“With your continued prayers and support, we will deliver a prosperous Saint Lucia that each and everyone of us so rightly deserves,” Chastanet declared.

He outlined what he said were the notable achievements of the Government over the last 36 months.

These included the VAT Reduction from 15% to $12.5%; targeted Amnesty on outstanding Hospital bills; 3 Year Amnesty on Personal Property Tax and a reduction in vehicle license fees.

Chastanet also pointed to achievements in the areas of health, security and justice, investment, education, youth and sports, social services and infrastructure – among others.

The United Workers Party (UWP) was voted into office on June 6, 2016 with an 11-6 majority in the house of assembly.

Just this week the party’s Deputy Chairman, Nancy Charles, announced that the UWP was preparing for the next general elections.

Private sector workers have never got no salary increase we are suffering as both parties refuse to implement a miniunm wage rate as the majority of blue collar workers earn less than 10 hundred dollars a month we are going thru modern day slavery so it is very misleadind for the prime minister to make a statement saying that we are better off
