PM Says Second Phase Of Village Tourism To Be Launched Soon

Saint Lucia will soon be launching the second phase of Village Tourism, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, has announced.

The first constituencies to benefit will be Gros Islet, Anse la Raye and Soufriere, Chastanet wrote on his official Facebook page Monday.

He explained that under the Village Tourism project, each village will have its own theme, such as wellness, art & craft and local traditions.

“With the help of low-interest financing supported by the Government, property owners in each village will be encouraged to upgrade their homes and properties to make them suitable as accommodations for visitors,” the former Tourism Minister stated.

“All owners will be licensed and will undergo training to ensure that the accommodations and services are at the same level as they would be in a hotel or resort. Local owners will also be supported with branding, marketing, sales, customer service and accounting systems,” Chastanet disclosed.

He said that in the constituency of Anse la Raye, a number of areas will be improved to commence Village Tourism in the community.

They include the upgrading of the Jetty; installation of Moorings; upgrading of the FishFry vending stalls; conversion of the Old Police Station to include Government offices an information booth and the Foundation.

The plan will also see the creation of Waterfront local seafood restaurants, bars and a cafe; upgrading of the village square and development of a Carnival Tour, the PM indicated.

  1. But Mr PM you HAVE to address the crime and healthcare issues though.. .all it will take to crumble this is one major incident. I admire your plans to bring the business directly to Saint Lucians but be cautious and comprehensive with your implementation.

  2. Before all these plans be implemented, first the crime have to be addressed. The crime rate is very high against tourist. The police have present at all functions of the tourism industry.

  3. Hmm that sounds all well and good but until i see construction starting i won’t believe it

  4. In his previous Government as Tourism minister he also said that he has plans for 8 – EIGHT did I say 8 new hotels!
