Prime Minister Allen Chastanet says authorities in Saint Lucia are mobilising to assist communities affected by heavy rainfall.
According to the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO), communities including Dennery, Micoud and Laborie have been affected by flooding and landslides with more rain expected Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We are mobilizing the relevant resources to bring relief to residents of these affected communities,” Prime Minister Chastanet wrote Monday on his official Facebook page.
He disclosed that his cabinet colleagues and NEMO officials have shared reports of flooding in several communities due to an overnight weather system.
According to the PM, by now it is evident both here and around the world that the COVID-19 pandemic has not slowed down or stopped Climate Change.
“We will and must continue investing in building resilient infrastructure and citizens to help adapt to climate change,” Chastanet asserted.
