Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has called for an end to the politics associated with the current COVID-19 pandemic, declaring that the virus is the enemy.
“Let’s get together as a country and let us defeat this virus,” he asserted Tuesday during an interview with reporters.
“If everybody stops with the politics, puts the virus clearly as an enemy of all of us – the virus does not know the difference between Flambeau and Labour – doesn’t know the difference between old and young, rich and poor, doesn’t know ethnicity,” a clearly exasperated Chastanet declared.
He explained that ultimately, if people in the society do not want to follow the rules, this country is in trouble.
“Stop believing that there is no virus – there is a virus,” Chastanet stated.
According to the PM, Saint Lucia does not have enough police officers to ensure that everyone is complying with the COVID-19 protocols.
Chastanet urged citizens who do not want to adhere to the protocols to protect themselves, to do so to safeguard their loved ones.
“That’s why I say to people ‘Put somebody you love in your mind. If you’re not willing to do it for yourself, do it for them'” he stated.
