Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has urged support for Saint Lucia’s ‘amazing’ musicians as this country deals with the current COVID-19 pandemic, asserting that this year has been a very tough one for them.
“They are among the hardest hit and as we continue to try to heal from this pandemic, let us keep supporting our local music, singers and musicians in any way we can,” Chastanet wrote on his official Facebook page on Sunday.
“They need us now more than ever and we need them to continue to create the soundtracks of our lives,” he said in a message to mark Saint Cecilia’s Day.
According to the PM, the the quote that resonated with him came from Saint Cecilia, the Patron of Music and Musicians: “Arise, soldiers of Christ, throw away the works of darkness and put on the armour of light.”
He noted that throughout history Saint Cecilia was recognized for her devotion even when she was persecuted.
Chastanet said there is no doubt that the music and singing she learned from a young age helped her spread her message and to cope.
“As we celebrate and recognize musicians today, on the Feast of Musicians let us also be inspired by the healing power and the gift that is music of all types,” he stated.
