Prime Minister Allen Chastanet warned in parliament Tuesday that COVID-19 is real, as he announced Saint Lucia’s first death from the virus.
There has since been a second death locally.
“For some persons out there who continue to want to think that this is not real – this is real,” Prime Minister Chastanet told parliament.
Chastanet said in regard to the first death that it was a day Saint Lucia was trying to avoid, but the country has sadly joined the rest of the world.
“Persons who may have thought that COVID doesn’t spread fast, it spreads fast – very fast and the only solution we have to the problem right now is practicing the protocols,” the Prime Minister observed.
He noted that citizens around the world are doing so with the greatest amount of discipline and have the greatest amount of results.
“If there is conflict and a continued divide in the society as to whether this is real and wearing a face mask matters – it does,” Chastanet told parliament.
