Police Commissioner, Severin Moncherry, say this country experienced an overall reduction in serious crime last year.
However, Moncherry explained that there was an increase in homicides.
“For 2020 we saw an overall reduction in serious crime – 18 percent,” he announced last week.
“Serious crimes on the whole decreased,” Moncherry told the National Television Network (NTN).
“We’re talking about burglaries, robberies, assault with firearms and other firearm related offences,” he explained.
According to the Police Chief, although law enforcement officers have had to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, they have done ‘what they had to do’.
And he asserted that they have done it well.
Moncherry thanked the executive and other members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF).
“Because they continue to do a tremendous job amid the challenges that we are faced with,” he explained.
