Police Chief and PWA agree on media strategy

Police Chief, Severin Moncherry and the Police Welfare Association (PWA) have agreed not to take to the media on any matter unless all avenues have been exhausted in dealing with it.

The disclosure was made last night by PWA President, Camron Laure.

Laure was a guest on the programme – Police Insight, which is aired on MBC Television.

He explained that the PWA and the current executive of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) have a very good relationship.

Laure observed that the current Police Chief came through the PWA and worked alongside the association for a number of years.

“Even now if there there is an issue and I think he is the one imposing something, we meet on a casual basis and I say ‘Boss’ like that ‘this is the case’ and he would say ‘we can try this and let’s see how it works’,” Camron Laure explained.

The PWA President said the issue with Moncherry’s predecessor, former Acting Police Commissioner Errol Alexander, was that Alexander did not want to hear the PWA.

“You know when we ask for and audience – so if you do not want to hear what is left to do, go to the courts or we take to the media – we express ourselves however we can to ensure you give us an audience that we seek,” Laure stated.

He disclosed that in the end, the PWA did get time to meet the then acting Police Chief to discuss issues.

Speaking of the current Police Commissioner, Laure said he walks into Moncherry’s office at any time.

“Sometimes I call him and I say to him ‘ there is a matter I would like to discuss with you – I am close by but I am not properly dressed to be at your office and he would say ‘no if it an urgent matter come to my office,” the PWA President said.
