Police do stop and search activities in City

Police have embarked on stop and search activities in Castries as part of an increased presence in the City as Christmas approaches, a senior police official has confirmed.

Assistant Superintendent Gregory Alexander told the Times that the objective is to crack down on robberies, assaults and snatchings.

“We intend to curb those incidents and so we have decided to increase the patrols in town – we need more boots on the ground so to speak,” Alexander said.

He disclosed that special patrols have been organized comprising officers from various units and departments as well as the Special Reserve Police.

Alexander explained that officers are out in larger numbers than usual to assist.

“You may notice our officers doing stop and search operations and just basically checking the City of Castries,” he told the Times.

Alexander said the patrols are being conducted on a twenty-four hour basis.
