Police Identify Victims In Assou Canal Homicide And Dennery Fatal Accident

Police have identified the victims in Monday evening’s fatal shooting at Assou Canal, Grand Riviere, Gros Islet and Tuesday morning’s accident at Austin Hill, Derniere Riviere.

According to a police release on the fatal shooting, on Monday February 25, 2019 about 7:45 p.m. officers attached to the Gros Islet Police Station, responded to a report of a shooting at Assou Canal, Gros Islet.

Twenty two  year old Miguel Alphonse, a resident of Assou Canal, Gros Islet, was conveyed to the Victoria Hospital via ambulance, after having allegedly sustained a gunshot wound about his body, the release said.

“He was later formally pronounced dead by a medical practitioner,” it stated, adding that a post mortem examination is scheduled for a subsequent date. 

The police called on  anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting to contact the nearest police station, the Gros Islet Police Station at 4563830, or the Major Crimes Unit at 4563754.

In a separate release, the police said that they are are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of  Dwight S.t Juste due to a vehicular accident which occurred on Tuesday February 26, 2018, about 9:05 a.m. at Austin Hill, Derniere Riviere.

The twenty seven year old resident of Austin Hill, was the sole rider of a motorcycle travelling towards Austin Hill, along the Grande Riviere main road, when he appeared to have lost control of the motorcycle, veering off the road, the release observed.

It said he was conveyed to the Dennery Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.

A post mortem examination is scheduled for a subsequent date.  

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has extended condolences to the bereaved families and friends
