Police Intercept Drugs At Vieux Fort, Body Recovered

The Saint Lucia Marine Police on Friday, May 24, 2019, intercepted a local canoe about one hundred  yards off Mathurin’s Point, Vieux Fort, resulting in the arrest of a Saint Lucian national.

According to law enforcement officials, 63 pounds of what appeared to be cannabis was recovered from the vessel ‘Corrrie’ and seized.

The detainee was identified as Martinez Fontenelle of Bruceville, Vieux Fort.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, taken to court and granted bail, police said.

A second occupant of the boat that was intercepted by the Marine Police jumped overboard in an attempt to flee, according to a police report.

A search was conducted but failed to find him, it was reported.

On Tuesday, the body of a male, believed to be the second occupant was recovered at a beach along Mathurin’s Point.

Police say that the body is yet to be identified.
