Police Commissioner Severin Moncherry says police officers sustained injuries during this week’s unrest at the Bordelais Correctional facility (BCF).
Moncherry made the disclosure when he appeared Friday on the National Television Network (NTN).
He said a few officers sustained burns because a chemical was thrown on them.
Moncherry commended his officers for doing a ‘fantastic job.’
“They have my full support with regard to what went on,” the Police Commissioner asserted.
BCF officials summoned the police as the inmate unrest escalated.
Moncherry recalled that prior to the police intervention, inmates had issued threats via social media and displayed weapons.
“The police officers used whatever force they felt was necessary,” he told NTN’s Lissa Joseph.
