Police Probe Suspected Drowning Of US National

Police here are investigating the suspected drowning in Soufriere  of a US national.

Investigators  have identified the deceased as Vijah Shah.

According to the police, the 63 year old hailed from New Jersey.

The Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) says the Soufriere Fire Station received a call on Friday about 1.05 pm, regarding a  possible drowning.

The location was Malgretoute Beach in Soufriere.

SLFS spokeswoman Stacy Joseph said emergency responders found a male individual on his back on the beach.

 Joseph disclosed that people on the scene were  performing CPR.

She said emergency personnel transferred the victim to an ambulance and continued CPR.

But a medical practitioner at Soufriere Hospital where the ambulance took the patient later pronounced him dead.
