Police Probe Viral Video Of Confrontation Between Cops And Ciceron Crowd

Saint Lucia police are investigating a viral video of a confrontation between officers and a vocal crowd at Ciceron, Castries, a senior member of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has confirmed.

The senior officer told St Lucia Times that the recording is believed to have been made on Sunday during a carnival activity in the community.

According to information, the police went to execute a warrant of arrest in regard to two wanted individuals.

The video shows an agitated crowd of people, some of whom are dressed in carnival outfits, confronting the police as they try to calm them down.

A male voice can be heard consistently during the recording that lasts 5 minutes and 43 seconds hurling abuse at the cops and using obscene language.

At one point the voice leads the crowd in a frenzied chant using a derogatory expression of a sexual nature to describe the police.

A law enforcement official told St Lucia Times that the matter is under investigation to identify the ‘key players’ in the confrontation with the police.

  1. People of St lucia will never have respect for our officers ok an da commissioner who’s there right now has lack of representing his hard working officers. I’ve never seen him me in defense of officers.that commissioner is anti police now it’s time they ban those stupid activities in those troublesome areas

      • What’s shown in the video surely isn’t civilized human behaviour. You should watch the national geographic channel sometimes.

      • He is not calling all St. Lucians chimps. Just the ones acting like primates. If I were the police there would never be a carnival activity in that community again. If they don’t know how to act then they don’t deserve such liberty. Find the agitators and arrest all of them.

  2. This has to stop all should be arrested people this is causing a lawless country we need to respect the police and allow them to do the jobs within the law

  3. This is purely political I’m no party hack so don’t go there 1st is it fitting to execute an arrest warrant on a Sunday same day u well know is carnival in the area and the parliamentary rep is hiliare go figure was the warrant successful? Did u return today if not Sunday to accomplish the mission? Will something become of what went down yesterday in that community? Why r the police allowing powers that be too use them at will whilst making a mockery of the justice system? Probe this please and I await a reply

    • These things will only stop when the police stop treating people like trash, stop being criminals and do their jobs right. Y wait for it to get out of had. Officers just do it right and there will be no problem

    • The majority of police can’t even afford to eat 3 meals a day the police are living in slums and ghettos just like you and me some smoke their weed with fanto I have seen police come and buy risla to roll their joint

  4. Well done Officers. This unruly crowd tried their utmost to derail you all from your mission but you all were adamant that you were arresting the two individuals you all came for, and you so did you all. Without excessive force I must nention, that is commendable. Well done Officers. Now use the footage to arrest those who were obstructing.

  5. One the police had no warrants to make any arrests. These set of offices are as corrupt as they come…if many were there to witness what happened they would be singing a different story…this article is very misleading

  6. This has to stop all should be arrested people this is causing a lawless country we need to respect the police and allow them to do the jobs within the law

  7. Excuse for saying this …but you see the same attitude being exhibit by those ppl in this forum talking non sense are similar to those on the day in question. You’ll wonder why the police refuse to come to ur cry and rescue when in danger . These are the very same ppl which continue to make this island unsafe for visitors..our kids and family, it’s only when we fall victim to their act that’s when we want the country and officers to hear our cry but sadly to say at times we have to be burnt and touched to see differently

  8. If the law don’t address this matter effectively, then it will be like one cancer cell detected at primitive time and wasn’t diagnosed . Then it will start to spread island wide uncontrollable. I want the law to do the first example with them. Every one has to be respected when doing their job. Only thieves you must not respected when doing their job

  9. DOG’S!
Your Bass Ackwards, country needs “Police Dog’s” Lot’s of them.
They would’ave snacked on the ankles of those out of control bastard’s. Enough foolishness, you need to take back your country. Don’t let a few monkey’s destroy the rule of law and civility. If they get away with it once, they’ll try it again for sure. Possibly with a worse outcome.

  10. some police officers so disrespectful will insult u and call u names jus as they call them in the video.they even curse u before
anything .the civilians have no right to prevent the police from excuting their duties or doing their job.bt there must be a level of respect from both civilians and police …a balance must be maintained.

  11. im no cop so someone make me wise, it is stated that the individuals were “wanted”, would a warrant still be needed for the arrest to be made?………. my only problem with the crowd is, if the guys are innocent then let the police apprehend them and they will be exonerated based on that. right now you getting on, cursing and causing a mini riot not helping the situation. the little carnival could bring in a money for a few I hope they try it in your community again.

  12. Diaspora commentaries can be so vivid and entertaining towards their fellow St Lucians we are called chimps called all kind of names, we should be housed down with fire hoses, pepper spray you name it wishing from a distance every brutality from the police under the sun. I just love my people.

  13. On this issue : if any individual is being disruptive and perceived as a danger to themselves and the community they can be arrested by the police at anytime: on the day in question an arrest was being made on an individual who assaulted and injured a police officer: Because this community already has issues of trusting the police, it was easy for the person recording to incite the behavior of the crowd, most of whom were already under the influence: People in the crowd who know nothing about the situation, but allow themselves to be driven to a frenzy put themselves at risk obstructing the police from doing their job. I applaud the police in how they handled themselves because it could have been a lot different if cooler heads had not prevailed. Folks it is important to remember with everyone carrying a phone these days , to be careful not to get involved in things you know nothing about. Why put yourself at risk for a situation where you would agree with police intervention, if you truly knew what it was about ; just because de rum and de inciting told you so.. be calm walk away, let the police work and protect you.
