Saint Lucia police are investigating a viral video of a confrontation between officers and a vocal crowd at Ciceron, Castries, a senior member of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has confirmed.
The senior officer told St Lucia Times that the recording is believed to have been made on Sunday during a carnival activity in the community.
According to information, the police went to execute a warrant of arrest in regard to two wanted individuals.
The video shows an agitated crowd of people, some of whom are dressed in carnival outfits, confronting the police as they try to calm them down.
A male voice can be heard consistently during the recording that lasts 5 minutes and 43 seconds hurling abuse at the cops and using obscene language.
At one point the voice leads the crowd in a frenzied chant using a derogatory expression of a sexual nature to describe the police.
A law enforcement official told St Lucia Times that the matter is under investigation to identify the ‘key players’ in the confrontation with the police.
