Police Urge Victims Of ‘Revenge Porn’ To Come Forward

Asserting that it is a criminal offence to post nude photos of individuals on social media without their consent, Saint Lucia police are urging victims  of ‘revenge porn’ to come forward and report the matter.

The issue was discussed by during Police Insight on MBC Television by Host, Sergeant Shervon Mathieu and his co-Host, Acting Corporal Camron Laure.

During the discussion on Monday, February 11, 2019, Laure observed that there has been an upsurge in in instances of nude photos and videos being posted on social media without the consent of the subject.

“Everybody sees it, but nobody is taken to task,” he lamented.

“It’s a criminal offence when you partake in such activities,” he disclosed, adding that the practice should stop.

“We have heard of instances where persons have actually made reports – it has been taken to court and it has been successful at a trial,” Laure explained.

He called on victims to make a report to the police so the matter could be investigated.

According to Laure, some photos are shared between persons who are in a trusted romantic relationship and leaked after an acrimonious breakup.

“A lot of it stems from breakups where people are in a relationship and you decide to share your videos with your partner, thinking or believing that it is safe at the time,” he stated.

Sergeant Matthieu for his part warned that both the person who originated the ‘revenge porn’ post and persons who forward it are liable to be prosecuted.

Revenge porn is defined as posting revealing or sexually explicit images or videos of a person on the internet.

Typically, the photos or videos are posted by a former sexual partner without the consent of the subject, in order to cause them distress or embarrassment or blackmail them.

  1. It,s About time they stop this crap it’s disgusting and photos of accented and dead body’s of love ones

  2. In this digital age I think it’s unwise to take nude pics whether you are romantically involved or not. Basically it’s evidence that may or may not be used against you in an embarrassing manner in the short or long run…minds change, hearts change, revenge etc etc etc.

Your nude pics may also end up all over the world in the hands of exploiting vicious individuals…let’s use wisdom before subjecting yourself to this. If you don’t mind and don’t care where your nude pics end up then ultimately that’s your own unwise choice to live with.

  3. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 mate brave he call his self porn man 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 second funniest thing ive seen today

  4. I agree with Jay… In this digital age, it’s just too easy to pass these photos or videos around…if you don’t wish to risk your reputation…just don’t take the photos nor videos…..why not create new memories all the time and perhaps share it with words instead…after all, words are not like pictures….
