Former Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) Castries South East Candidate – Timothy Mangal, has issued the following statement. Mr.Mangal is the Manager and Owner of Total Construction Supplies.
Immediately following the 2011 general elections, I approached the Labour Government on several occasions, informing them of many pressing matters I had recognized and others the residence of the communities in South East had brought to my attention which needed urgent attention.
At a meeting held in Vieux Fort a mere Months after the elections, I volunteered to assist in addressing the issues but was told that there are no caretaker candidates in the Labour Party. Having heard others being referred to as caretaker candidates especially in Castries Central, I thought I was rejected. I subsequently realized That I was not the one being rejected but the Government had decided to turn their backs on the people of Castries South East. I say so for two reasons.
1. I was approached after four years to run again for the Labour Party which I turned down.
2. I realized that the constituency has been neglected. The major rivers have not been desilted in over four years and remain heavily silted to this day. As recent as Saturday the Marc area was flooded, the roads remain in a deplorable state in most parts of the constituency including Forestierre, old and new belair, Fond marge, Capitol hill to name a few. No attention paid to the safety of persons living in areas prone to natural disasters.
I must condemn this behavior on the part of a Government that results in the risking lives and property.
