Pope Francis approves changes to Lord’s Prayer, reports say

SourceUSA Today

USA Today: Pope Francis reportedly approved changes to the wording of the Lord’s Prayer, also known as the Our Father.

Instead of saying, “Lead us not into temptation,” Catholics will say, “Do not let us fall into temptation,” The Guardian and Fox News reported.

The pope said he thought the English translation of the prayer was not correct.

“It is not a good translation because it speaks of a God who induces temptation,” he told Italy’s TV2000 channel in 2017, per The Guardian. “I am the one who falls. It’s not him pushing me into temptation to then see how I have fallen.

“A father doesn’t do that; a father helps you to get up immediately. It’s Satan who leads us into temptation, that’s his department.”

The Lord’s Prayer comes from the Gospels in which Jesus taught his disciples the prayer. It is among the most sacred prayers in both Catholicism and Christianity overall, though there are other translations across denominations.

Francis also reportedly approved changes to The Gloria from “peace on Earth to people of good will” to “peace on Earth to people beloved by God.”

The changes were approved May 22 during the General Assembly of the Episcopal Conference of Italy by President Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, Catholic blog uCatholic.com reported.

The changes will be printed in the coming months, according to the blog.

  1. Just who does the Pope think he is to change the wording of that prayer? Mweh mem…….twop roro with that Pope. Soon he will claim that he is God

    • Where did we get the wording of anything in modern English. Do we stop and think that maybe errors were made and forgotten. Sometimes when everyone believes something wether true or false it is hard to change their minds. The world was flat for a long time before and after Galileo died. The world did become round to us eventually. I’m just saying. It’s like having to believe in santa Claus only to find out that the fat sucker was made up by the coca cola company.
I am a translator and sometimes onesentence or a expression can mean a number of things. It all depends on translator discresion on what context is if the original author is not around. Translations do get lost. Let’s give the benefit of the doubt. You don’t have to like the man.

  2. ANOINTED PRAYER

A Pope shall never encourage, support, counsel or sanction any act of ‘…Blasphemy.’ Altering the Lord’s Prayer, amounts to that.

Since a Pope risks depriving himself of a golden opportunity to enter into the Kingdom of God, ‘…Touch not the Lord’s Anointeth.’

  3. Religion, biggest farce perpetrated on mankind. Over the years it’s destroyed more souls than it’s saved. Fighting wars over who’s fairytale is more believable.

  4. That pope have to much in him. These Roman Catholics ,they
already believe he’s God. Its a very good thing I’m no Roman Catholic

  5. What’s this world coming to when a man takes it upon himself to change the Lord’s Prayer, my God why is this happening. Catholics already think they own the world, they believe they are the only true religion. I believe in the Almighty God so I know this is blasphemy.

Revelation 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

    • Didn’t read that it was not just the Pope? It was a decision made by the General Assembly of the Episcopal Conference. The Catholic believe that decision made by the head in his name is done with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. These so called bible christian has not understood the bible and it origin. I once told one of them that the bible is not mentioned in the bible. He was further surprise when I told him that the bible does have everything that Christ taught. I also told him that the pillar and foundation of Truth is not the bible but the Church 1st Timothy 3:15. The Church being the Apostles who had everything Jesus taught them.

      • Not everything that Jesus taught was written in bible. Read john the last verse last paragraph it says if all things performed by Jesus were written there would be no enough room on earth for those books to be kept.

  6. Correction-Efficacy… I always Experienced Difficulty with… “Lead us not into temptation”… during My Supplications… “Do not let us fall into temptation” is Definitely a “Better Translation” and “Earnest Request”… Likewise the Change-Efficacy… from “peace on Earth to people of good will” to “peace on Earth to people beloved by God.”… Efficaciously Correct… All the Best… God Bless Us All…!!!

  7. I am a Roman Catholic and very practical too; I try to understand what i read in the Holy Book also! can someone explain these 2 Bible verses to me: REVELATION 22:18,19; so is the pope God or a god!

  8. Bible in a Year
    June 10
New Testament Verse of the Day:
That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
    –2 Corinthians 12:10

  9. Good for you all who adorned these Great Battymen In Robes. All you religious Catholic Fanatics swear they are Gods onto themselves and whatever they say is written in stone.

  10. Has the pope ever claimed to be a God? We Catholics are not sheep. When we go to mass we don’t hear criticism about other faiths. We are encouraged to be our brothers keeper and so express love to all. Try to keep an open mind people. There is room in heaven for all regardless of religious persuasion.
