President Maduro Calls for Educational Constituent Assembly for the Country’s Peace

Venezuela’s president Nicolas Maduro called on educational communities of the country and the university sector to actively engage in the assemblies and debates on the constituent process he has convened with the aim of strengthening the Bolivarian Constitution, approved in 1999.

Thus, he urged to develop an educational constituent assembly, that must be done simultaneously in schools, colleges and universities across the country, stressed the president during the first graduation ceremony of the Simon Rodriguez Micromision, held at the Miraflores presidential palace, in Caracas.

“Let’s activate and set up the constituent assembly of education in the country, with the participation of teachers, workers, students. We are going to activate a constituent assembly in each school, in each high school, for the debate,” on all issues to win peace, he said.

The Constituent Assembly, convened in accordance with articles 347 and 348 of the Constitution, will have nine objectives: national peace, improvement of the economic system, constitutionalization of social missions, strengthening of the justice system, fight against terrorism and drug trafficking; new forms of participative and protagonist democracy; defense of sovereignty, integrity of the nation and rejection of interventionism; vindication of the pluricultural character of the country; guarantee of the future and preservation of life on the planet.

There will be more than 500 constituents from all sectors engaging in the process of the Constituent Assembly, elected by the people through universal, direct and secret voting in a territorial and sectoral sphere.

President also urged all sectors of the country, without distinction, to join national debates, which contrasts with the approach of society by extremist sectors of the right, committed to hatred, violence and coup.
