USA Today:– A fire broke out late Monday night on Princess Cruises’ private island in Eleuthera, Bahamas, the cruise line confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY.
The fire occurred at 11 p.m. local time on the island Princess Cays. No guests were present at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The only guest-facing facility affected was one of the public restrooms.
“The fire encompassed several buildings on the south side of the island,” according to a statement from Negin Kamali from the public relations department at Princess Cruises. “It was fought by local firefighters and island staff for approximately one hour before it was extinguished.”
The incident is under investigation and the cause of the fire is currently unknown.
Princess − whose parent company is Carnival Corporation − is in the process of determining how this may affect ships in the future.
“The safety of our employees and guests is our number one priority,” the statement continued. “Any impact to future Princess ship calls is currently being assessed.
