Prison Officer Held For Drugs ‘Freed For A Previous Offence’

A veteran prison officer who was held for possession of drugs and other contraband Monday at Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF), had been freed by a court for a previous offence, it has been disclosed.

“He was arrested in a similar case a few years ago but the matter was dismissed over some technicality,” an official familiar with the case told St Lucia Times.

In the latest incident, the prison officer was held with 16 packages containing plant material suspected to be cannabis, two parcels containing hashish, lighters, cigarettes and other contraband, it was reported.

The suspect is accused of attempting to smuggle the items into BCF.

He has been detained by the police and charges are expected to be laid later, law enforcement officials told St Lucia Times.
